Graduate Scholar Susanna Maingi studies fisheries and wildlife in an effort to make sense of Eastern Africa's human-carnivore conflict. To assist with her research, Maingi was recently awarded the Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship and an IDEA WILD scholarship.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program staff had the privilege to meet with two alumni, Regis Nisengwe and Vincent Karenzi, who have returned to Africa to continue their professional journeys and give back to their communities.

On Giving Tuesday, Michigan State University hosted Give Green Day—a day that encouraged others to celebrate significant projects, programs, and activities at MSU by donating to them. Participating this year was MSU's new Youth Empowerment Program (YEP)—a program that leverages MSU expertise to identify and scale new opportunities for global youth education, entrepreneurship, and empowerment activities.

Continuing with the streak, 2017 is the fourth year in a row that a Mastercard Foundation Scholar has won or placed in the Top Three for the International Essay Contest hosted by the Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS).

This year, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at MSU welcomes 33 new Scholars from 19 African countries. The 2017 cohort is comprised of 21 undergraduates and 12 graduates.
