Undergraduate Scholar Nana Abena Anti ('18) was selected to speak at this year's Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) in Phoenix, Arizona from November 1-4.

Sophomore Scholar Irene Yayishimiye, a computer engineering major, has earned a scholarship from Fast Enterprises Company to attend the Grace Hopper Women in Computing Conference in Orlando, FL.

This year, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at MSU welcomes 33 new Scholars from 19 African countries. The 2017 cohort is comprised of 21 undergraduates and 12 graduates.

After recognizing a need for the development and assistance of youth in Africa, MSU Mastercard Foundation Scholar alumnus Buhle Mndzebele co-founded the Buhle Capital Foundation. The foundation's focus is to benefit the lives of African youth by focusing on welfare, health, education, and mentorship.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at MSU is accepting applications for the 2018 cohort. The program welcomes applications for two–year, on-campus master's degree programs that will begin August 2018.

For the fourth consecutive year, Scholars celebrated and commemorated Nelson Mandela by serving the Detroit community. In coordination with Renee Wallace at Food PLUS Detroit, the Scholars joined the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm in honor of Nelson Mandela Day.

In 2017, the program saw a record number of Mastercard Foundation Scholars graduating as 12 graduate and 10 undergraduate students finished their studies at Michigan State University. Notably, the class of 2017 saw the highest number of Scholars accepted into graduate school programs to pursue further education.

In August 2017, Arthur Muneza—a MSU Mastercard Foundation Scholar alumnus—received an Early Career Grant from the National Geographic Society. Muneza's Early Career Grant will fund his research on the factors that affect giraffe survival in southern Kenya.
